4 Effective Homemade Herbal Teas – With Benefits

Here’s 4 of our effective homemade herbal teas with benefits.  They can be made and consumed with minimum effort whilst boosting your immune system, improving your health and preventing illnesses. We use both fresh and dried herbs/spices in our teas.

We stopped drinking coffee a while ago and I was on the search for a healthier replacement. We're also big fans of using biodegradable tea bags, which can be disposed of in the garden after use. This is a perfect way of staying Eco-friendly as most of you might not be aware that majority of tea bags contain plastics. Our sugar intake over time, has reduced massively and we’ve stuck with the 4 effective herbal teas below ever since. 

If you prefer to add a little sweetener, we would suggest using, agave syrup or maple syrup as honey and sugar substitutes. Some herbal teas are best consumed with hot water and not boiling water, so just let your water sit a few mins after boiling before using in your brew, as boiling water can scald the tea.

Many people think drinking herbal teas can help weight loss. We would say weight loss is controlled through combinations of a healthy living and healthy eating. However, if you mix all these combinations together with the consumption of herbal teas, it could have a positive impact on your body. 

Peppermint & Lemon Tea

I prefer this herbal blend in the morning before breakfast or after dinner in the evening with 1 tsp honey. If i have any left over, i bottle it and keep it refrigerated as it quenches your thirst when cold.

Tip: Try growing mint at home on the window ledge or in the garden, it grows like wildfire so its wise to plant in a controlled area. A few garden pots should do it! With careful watering, from seed, you will expect results in a few months. After it grows to a foot or so, you can expect to cut it down and it should re-grow to its harvest height quicker at around 1.5 months.

Peppermint and lemon herbal tea

Chamomile & Sri Lankan Cinnamon (Ceylon) Tea

This tea dramatically help me when coming off medication such as Diazepam and Amitriptyline. I would have a cup every other night about 30 mins before going to sleep. I found by taking it every other night, that i my system was not becoming immune to it. Obviously it will not have the same effect as sleeping pills like the two mentioned above, but it really does help you relax in a healthier way. 

Tip: You can also tie chamomile in a cheese clot, soak it in a hot bath which is a therapeutic way of promoting sleep, skin health and soothe aching muscles.

Chamomile and Cinnamon herbal tea



Strawberry, Kiwi, Rose-hip & Bilberry Tea

Strawberry and Kiwi are known for high vitamin C levels and can be consumed hot or cold. Add a touch of honey if you wish and enjoy! Perfect for those cold winter nights or those hot summer days. Strawberry and Kiwi are also known to contain high amount of vitamin C.

Tip: Be sure to consult with a doctor if you are taking any blood thinning medication as strawberry could increase their effects.

strawberry kiwi rosehips tea

Lemon, Turmeric, Black Pepper & Ginger Tea

This is our favourite and most consumed herbal tea. It’s perfect in the mornings or evenings whether consumed hot or cold. We occasionally add turmeric, black pepper and cinnamon. We find that, if you consume this throughout the year on a regular basis, it could reduce the chance of getting a cold/flu.

Tip: You can also add 1/2 tsp of Turmeric & 1/4 tsp of black pepper to any of the herbal teas. Turmeric, as we all know is a potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant and may also help improve symptoms of depression and arthritis.
